Qualified personnel is the key to any great business. Sadly, most businesses hope and pray that they can hire those who have already been trained to perform the jobs they need performed. However, we have found, through experience, that the best personnel are they ones you train personally. Years ago we developed a 3-year apprenticeship training, whereby each man who wants to be employed by us, must commit to and complete his three years of apprenticeship. As of now we are training our 9th and 10th person in our apprenticeship program.
It encourages both the management and the technicians to consciously be thinking "training" each and every day. Furthermore, we set time aside each week for training with the younger trainees and it is generally carried out by the older, more experienced technicians. We follow the maxim of, "Each one teach one". As one person learns something new, he is expected to pass on what he has learned to the next person.
As the young man completes each module of training and/or ASE Certification, he receives an increase in his pay/compensation. By the end of the three years he has the necessary tools and experience to become a well-equipped technician. Since we ask for three years of his time, he is then free to pursue other options. Some have moved on, some have stayed. However each one has remained for considerable amounts of time with us beyond that period of apprenticeship.
